BALAOAN, LA UNION – The Balaoan Police Station is already considering a person of interest in the shooting incident that occurred along the national highway in Barangay Bungol, Balaoan in the early hours of Tuesday, February 24.

The victim was positively identified as Rheymar Soriano Ledda, 25, a farmer, and a resident of Barangay Butubut Norte, in the same municipality. Rheymar was found lying on the side of the road, with a head injury, next to his still on idle single-motorbike.

Police Major Dimsy A. Pitan, Chief of Police of the Balaoan Police Station, said that they received the shooting report at around 4:45 in the morning and immediately went to the scene. Regarding the incident, his attending physician declared that the victim had just died at around 4:30 in the morning.

Even though there is no nearby CCTV footage that could have helped the case, Major Pitan added that the investigation continues and there is already an emerging information that could point to a person of interest. While processing the crime scene, the Crime Operatives recovered three empty shells of .45 caliber pistol and based on the victim’s wounds, he had a single wound to the knee, neck, and head.

Authorities also discovered a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be “shabu,” a local name for an addictive drug called Methamphetamine Hydrochloride. Because of this, the crime is being considered to have a motive related to illegal drugs. | via Bombo Rafael Galano
